Breaking: Young defenseman involved in trade rumors suddenly placed on waivers.

This may seem minor but it is a very interesting move in context.

After we reported earlier today that New York Rangers defenseman Dylan McIlrath was being shopped by his team, the young defenseman has been placed on waivers by the Rangers according to a report from Sporrtsnet insider Elliotte Friedman.

The move is particularly interesting because while reports suggest that the Rangers hopes he slips through the waiver wire, that seems extremely unlikely, especially considering there were teams rumored to have interest in him prior to this announcement.

There are a number of teams currently looking for help on defense, and while McIlrath is still unproven at the NHL level, many feel he never got a real shot in New York, and there coudl easily be a team now willing to give him that opportunity.
