It is more bad news for the Boston Bruins on Monday morning.

According to a breaking news report from Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty the Bruins have lost captain Zdeno Chara during practice on Monday. Haggerty is reporting that Chara was struck in the head by a puck during a penalty killing drill and was forced to leave practice early due to the injury he sustained. The blow was significant enough that it knocked the big man down as per Haggerty's report, which is obviously not a good sign for the Bruins.

At this time we do not know how badly Chara was hurt but according to Haggerty there are some good signs, most notably that Chara was able to skate off the ice under his own power. Given that this is a head injury it may be some time before we hear more about it from the Bruins who will likely only describe this as an injury of the upper body variety.

The Bruins do not play tonight which is probably a good thing although they will welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Boston on Tuesday night. No word on what Chara's status for that game may be at this time but no doubt we'll learn more in the next 24 hours or so so stayed tuned for more details.
