While the summer was difficult on the business side, as he awaited to come to an agreement with the Vancouver Canucks, Brock Boeser was living an even more tough situation at home with his father.

At the end of July, Boeser shared news on his Instagram that his father is battling cancer again. Duke Boeser was previously diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017, but it reoccurred at the end of May and has metastasized to his liver and his bones. A few days before the announcement, a blood clot in a lung triggered heart failure; Duke was taken to hospital and stayed in intensive care.

Now back with the Canucks after signing a three-year bridge contract on Monday night, reporters asked about Duke’s condition, which got Boeser quite emotional about the summer he spent with his father.

Boeser talked about the past four weeks with his father, revealing that Duke’s health is getting better. He added he really knows the meaning of taking things one day at a time.

We can understand why a contract dispute and the negotiations were far off his mind during the summer. His dad’s fight must have  served as inspiration for Boeser for the upcoming season.

We certainly hope Duke gets better and out of danger and can spend more quality with his son in years to come.
