There is a good chance that we set Bruce Boudreau back behind a hockey bench. According to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek, Boudreau is in the mix to coach Team Canada at the Spengler Cup.

In September, Boudreau accepted a role as a senior adviser for the Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). There, he joined his son, Ben, who is a first-year associate coach for the IceDogs. On top of that, the Great One Wayne Gretzky is a part-owner of the team.

However, this opportunity lands him right back where fans want to see him: coaching hockey!

Back in January, Boudreau was fired by the Canucks and replaced by Rick Tocchet behind the bench. Boudreau has always been a fan favourite, especially in Vancouver where the crowd chanted “Bruce, there it is” to show support for the chaos during the bad streak for the Canucks.

He is also one of the most winningest coaches in NHL history after posting a 617-342-128 record in 1,087 games. Amongst coaches who have been behind the bench for 1,000 games or more, Boudreau has the second highest points percentage (.626), trailing only Scotty Bowman (.657).

He would be a great addition and leader to Team Canada.

Let’s see if he lands the job for the Spengler Cup.
