Uh... shouldn't this investigation just begin and end with Cam Neely?
The Boston Bruins released a statement today announcing that their organization will be undergoing a third-party review of their "player vetting process" in the wake of the Mitchell Miller signing controversy.
From the Bruins:
The Boston Bruins strive every day to live our values and meet the high standards our associates, fans and community have come to expect. This includes treating everyone inside and outside our organization with dignity and respect. We recently fell short of our high standards and disappointed both ourselves and many in our community. Moving forward, we are committed to ensuring that our values are reflected in everything we do as an organization, including our process for vetting future players.
As part of this commitment, the Boston Bruins have retained an experienced and respected team of professionals, led by former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch of the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, to conduct an independent review of our player-vetting process. This will help us ensure that our process going forward reflects our core values. The Bruins organization will fully cooperate with the independent review team and will publicly disclose the results of the review upon its completion.
Nonsense.
Complete and utter nonsense.
All they need is for leadership to step up and take accountability for scouting and then eventually signing Miller. I mean, that's what leaders do. They step up and take the hit when someone needs to take the hit. Instead, what you have with the Bruins is President Cam Neely and General Manager Don Sweeney hiding behind some silly "investigation" so that they don't have to shoulder any of the blame.
Just an absolute master class in poor leadership from the Bruins' executive team.
I can appreciate that the Bruins are a well oiled machine on the ice this season, but their front office staff is quickly becoming the laughing stock of the NHL. Do you think a respected leader like Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman or Lou Lamoriello would react in the same way? Not a chance. Again, real leaders step up and take the bullet for their team when needed. This is just another example of Neely and Sweeney passing the buck in my opinion. Shameful.
