We have a trade!
We have a trade to report, a relatively minor deal between two legitimate Stanley Cup contenders.
National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli was the first to break the news of a 1 for 1 deal between the defending Stanley Cup champions in the Colorado Avalanche and this year's top team in the regular season in the form of the Boston Bruins.
In this deal the Bruins are sending veteran goaltender Keith Kinkaid to the Avalanche in exchange for forward Shane Bowers, and it seems likely that both players will report to the American Hockey League affiliate for both of these teams.
Kinkaid has spent all season with the Providence Bruins of the AHL where he appeared in 20 games and recorded a 3.10 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
Bowers, a former first round pick (28th overall) of the Ottawa Senators at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, played 37 games for the Colorado Eagles this season and has 4 goals and 10 assists for a total of 14 points over that stretch.
Both men have just a single NHL game on their resume this season.
While this is a relatively minor move from the perspective of both teams, this was likely designed to add depth to the respective positions each team traded for and that could become a factor in a lengthy playoff run.
