A very rare trade between two of the NHL's most bitter rivals.
We have a very rare trade between two of the National Hockey League's greatest rivals, although perhaps the nature of this trade explains why these two sides were willing to do business with one another.
According to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins have come to an agreement on a trade on day 2 of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. There are no players involved in this deal, with only 3 picks changing hands.
Montreal receives:
Pick #69 at this year's draft.
Boston receives:
Pick #79 at this year's draft.
Pick #108 at this year's draft.
As I mentioned I suspect that the nature of this trade had a great deal to do with why these two sides were willing to make a deal here, with no proven assets being moved on either side of this trade deal. Instead the two teams have effectively swapped around their lottery tickets, with the Canadiens walking away with the higher pick while the Bruins walk away with an additional asset in their cabinet.
There will be no way to properly gauge how this trade impacted both teams for years to come, with none of the players selected with these picks expected to make a jump to the NHL right away. Instead all of the players selected at this stage of the draft are likely years away from developing into NHL players, and in fact may never develop into NHL players at all.
