UPDATE: It appears that Cassidy does indeed have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and that assistant coach Joe Sacco will take over head coaching duties in the interim.
This just in, the Boston Bruins have announced that head coach Bruce Cassidy has been placed in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list.
Check it out:
It's not yet known whether or not Cassidy has a confirmed case of COVID-19 or if he has provided a false negative test result or if he's been in contact with another confirmed case. All of these situations would result in a player or personnel staff member being placed in protocol.
As for the Bruins, they have the Detroit Red Wings on tap for this evening, the Nashville Predators on Thursday evening and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday evening to round out the week. If indeed Cassidy does have COVID-19, he'll be away for at least these three games, maybe more.
The Bruins have yet to make an announcement as to who will fill in for Cassidy in an interim basis, but it's assumed that one of Joe Sacco, Kevin Dean or Chris Kelly, the team's assistant coaches, will get the temporary promotion. Stay tuned.
