Imminent trade?
The offseason has been rough on the Boston Bruins and time is running out, but it ain’t over yet. After losing captain Patrice Bergeron and veteran forward David Krejci to retirement, the Bruins couldn’t find a way to keep two top-nine left wingers in Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi and top defenseman in Dmitry Orlov on the roster, and will have to find a way to keep any chance of contending for a Stanley Cup this upcoming season.
That’s why Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press wonders if the Boston Bruins will make a push for Mark Scheifele in the coming days in order to get a huge boost at their center depth.
From McIntyre:
Scheifele would be quite an addition to Boston. He scored a career high 42 goals in 81 games of the 2022-23 regular season. He is headed into the final season of an eight-year, $49 million contract that carries a $6.125 million salary cap hit.
The issue for the Bruins is that Scheifele, who already sounded off on his reluctance to re-sign in Winnipeg, could prefer to test the 2024 UFA market.
But you know what they say. No risk, no reward.
