Might wanna check the passports on your roster there, B's fans.
If you're a Boston Bruins fan and you're not watching tonight's rivalry game against the Montreal Canadiens well... you're missing out big time.
Bruins pest Brad Marchand has a hat trick just half way through the game and actually managed to put up two of them in a span of about 15 seconds.
Check it out:
Incredibly though, the hometown Bruins fans broke out in a patriotic "USA! USA! USA!" chant following Marchand's hat trick goal.
Um... what?
I... I don't get it...
Do these fans realize that Marchand himself is about as Canadian as it gets? Ditto for their captain Patrice Bergeron. In fact, both players grew up cheering for the Habs as youngsters... And their other goal scorer on the evening, Curtis Lazar, was captain for Team Canada at the 2014 World Junior Championships...
Is it really wise then to be beating your chests like this is some great American victory? Maybe these fans should also check the passports for guys like Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Cam Neely, Phil Esposito and on and on and on. In fact, there's only two Americans in the Bruins' all-time points leaders. This is a team that has historically been filled with Canadian players that play a Canadian style of hockey. That's no slight at American hockey though, it's just stating facts.
I'm no Habs fan by any means, but do you think fans at the Bell Centre would be cheering, "CANADA! CANADA! CANADA!", if American born defender Jeff Petry were to score a big goal against the Bruins? Come on now...
Putting all that nonsense aside, Marchand's best performance of the night came before the puck even dropped in this lopsided game. Marchand took warm up's with a microphone strapped to his chest and swore on live TV when talking with the NHL on TNT broadcast team.
Check it out:
Classic... he's literally talking about not swearing and then he goes ahead and drops a casual swear word anyways. He can't help himself! That's hockey, baby!
