Things are really bad in Boston right now, and the threat of people losing their jobs is very real. Perhaps that's why just a few short days after Claude Julien questioned his team's will to win, Peter Chiarelli is making some highly critical comments of his own.
"I'm disappointed we put ourselves in this position," said Chiarelli. "I consider it a failure. It's a failure on everybody's part. But being a failure doesn't mean there needs to a complete overhaul. Guys fail. Teams fail."
The comments would indicate that Chiarelli and perhaps Julien as well believe that if they miss the post season, which looks more and more like a very real possibility, they are gone. Amalie Benjamin asked Chiarelli point blank if he expected to be around to fix the team, and his answer was non committal at best, resigned at worst.
"I don’t know. I’m not sure. I’m operating that I am until they tell me that I’m not."
Chiarelli has been highly criticized for some questionable moves regarding player personnel as of late, and it would be no surprise to anyone if he was a free agent at the end of the season.
