The Bruins are looking to make a move.
The Boston Bruins are the top team in the National Hockey League this season and you have to imagine that on some level they are relatively comfortable with their team heading into the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Bruins have a solid roster on their hands but there's little doubt that in spite of this they will be looking to improve ahead of the NHL's March 3rd trade deadline as other teams in the Eastern Conference begin to load up their rosters with additional talent.
We have already seen big moves from the New York Rangers, who acquired star winger Vladimir Tarasenko in a trade, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, who acquired now former St. Louis Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly in a trade, and it seems like it is only a matter of time before we see the Bruins also pull the trigger on a move of their own.
On Saturday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman gave us a very good hint at what direction the Bruins are leaning in with Friedman narrowing the Bruins' targets down to just a pair of defensemen.
"I do think that one of the reasons that [Vladislav] Gavrikov was given the trade-related sit out by the Columbus Blue Jackets is because the Bruins are in on him," said Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "I think they are also looking at [Jakob} Chychrun but I do think they are in on Gavrikov as well."
It seems very clearly that the Bruins are looking to improve the left side of their defense and Friedman indicated that he believes as much, while also hinting at the fact that this could develop quickly in the next few days.
"One of the issues I believe is cap, the Bruins have to do some things to make this work, but we'll see where this goes over the next couple of days," said Friedman. "I think left-d is an area that Boston is targetting."
