Rumors of the demise of the Boston Bruins have been greatly exaggerated.
Despite fans and pundits expecting them to begin a downward slant and take a considerable backward step this season, they've taken those predictions and tossed them into the Atlantic Ocean. They currently lead the National Hockey League with a pristine 16-2 record, and in doing so have tied an NHL record with 11 straight home victories to start the season. Only the Florida Panthers of last season and the Chicago Blackhawks of 1963-64 have accomplished the feat in the past.
Oh, and they also became the first team since the 1929-30 Bruins to win 16 of their first 18 games. Impressive, eh?
"We don’t want to lose in this arena,” said goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who returned from a lower body injury. “Boston fans are the best in the league, so we want to make sure that we’re winning at home and that we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.”
The Bruins take on the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, beginning at 7:00 PM EST.
