Bruins insider says McDavid does not deserve to be nominated for the Hart.

One of the most controversial takes in a long time.

Well this is certainly an interesting take.

On Sunday the National Hockey League unveiled the 3 finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy and I must admit that it was one of the least surprising announcements in the history of the league. The 3 nominees included Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, considered by many to be the best player in the world, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, considered by many to be the best player in the world, and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov, the man who scored 128 points this season.

I've have no real problem with this list especially when you consider that the star factor of players like McDavid and Crosby especially will often see them painted in a very favorable light. As for Kucherov the man had one of the best seasons in recent memory and finished a full 12 points ahead of the next closest guy, that guy being none other than McDavid himself. In spite of the fact that it would seem that all of the nominees make some sense, not everyone was happy with the players who got the award.

One of the most controversial takes on the topic has to be the one offered up by Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty. Haggerty was clearly not happy with the final 3 nominations and took to social media on Sunday to express his discontent with what he felt was a snub against the Bruins. Haggerty flat out stated that Connor McDavid had not deserved the nomination and went so far as to suggest that Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand should have earned consideration for the award off the heels of his 100 point season with the Bruins. What made this all the more confusing however was Haggerty's suggestion that the poor performance of McDavid's team should somehow disqualify him from receiving votes and again went pretty far by stating that McDavid was not even within his top 5 players for the Hart this season.

Here is Haggerty's take, unedited and in his own words:

McDavid? Seriously? Great stats obviously but on a super disappointing team. He wasn’t on the top-5 on my ballot. Brad Marchand was a worthier Hart candidate this season.

To be fair to Haggerty here it is unquestionable that Marchand had an incredible season, but was that really enough to dethrone McDavid? Let us know what you guys think in the comments below.
