Everyone knew it was going to be a pretty rough offseason for the cap strapped Bruins and we are starting to see newly appointed general manager Don Sweeney's plan take shape. Comments made by Sweeney during a conference call on Friday were reported
“Obviously we’re trying to plan for every circumstance that may exist and Carl was a very important part of our team this year," Sweeney said. "In a perfect world, we would be able to retain Carl. It’s highly unlikely at this point in time that that will be happening, relative to our overall situation. I think that Joonas represents a player of similar nature and similar skill set. You know, he’s a big, strong player, he’s responsible, he’s 27 years old, so he’s been through the pro ranks and he’s ready for it.On that same conference call Sweeney made it clear that the team intends to get back to its' physical ways, and it appears that resigning Adam McQuaid may be a top priority this offseason. The good news for the Bruins is it does appear that McQuaid also has his heart set on staying in Boston, his agent Paul Krepelka stated as much.
“We’re holding out hope [to get something done].”
