Bruins make emergency call as Krug is placed on IR!

The holiday break might be over and the Boston Bruins aren’t catching one either…

The team announced this morning that defenseman Torey Krug has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. According to team insider Joe Haggerty, the blue liner was injured in the Bruins’ win over the Washington Capitals on Monday night, presumably on this bit of contact from Tom Wilson.

That is why this morning, the Bruins proceeded to recall Steven Kampfer from Providence in Krug’s place.

With five goals and 21 assists in his 33 games, Krug leads all Boston defensemen in scoring this season. He must sit out for seven days now that he’s on IR, retroactive to Monday.

As for Kampfer, he took part in four games for Boston this season, and has four assists in six games with Providence for the year.

While Krug isn’t available, it is believed that captain Zdeno Chara will be back in the lineup Friday night in Buffalo. Chara missed Monday’s game after undergoing surgery to remove hardware from his jaw, which he broke during Boston’s run to the Stanley Cup Final last season.

Unfortunately for the Bruins, defenseman Charlie McAvoy is also out of the lineup for the Bruins' upcoming game against the Sabres. The young blue liner is considered day to day and did not make the trip to Buffalo with the rest of his teammates.
