The Boston Bruins are cutting ties with a player acquired near this year's National Hockey League trade deadline.

On Sunday, Bruins reporter Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald broke the news that Bruins forward Jakub Lauko would not be back with the Bruins next season. Conroy, reporting on information directly from Lauko's agent JP Barry, has revealed that the Bruins chose not to extend Lauko a qualifying offer. As a result Lauko will now be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Lauko was originally selected by the Bruins in the third round (77th overall) of the 2018 National Hockey League entry draft but dealt him to the Minnesota Wild last summer, prior to the start of the 2024-25 regular season.

The Bruins subsequently reacquired Lauko in a second trade with the Wild as part of a deal that sent forward Justin Brazeau to Minnesota at this year's NHL trade deadline.

Lauko had a relatively underwhelming season with 5 goals and 6 assists for a total of 11 points over 56 games split between both the Wild and the Bruins, finishing the season with a plus minus rating of -13.

That being said he could end up being a depth addition somewhere in the NHL next season now that he is an unrestricted free agent.
