Boston is red hot.
Rumors of the demise of the Boston Bruins have been greatly exaggerated. Despite having been predicted by most pundits and fans as this being the season that they take a considerable step backward in the standings, all Boston has done is prove them wrong in epic fashion.
Not only are they the top team in the National Hockey League with a 30-4-4 record through 38 games played after last night's 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, but they're also easily considered the frontrunners to be hoisting the Stanley Cup this spring.
And thanks to their obscenely good record in the standings, they've officially entered themselves into the NHL record books. According to Boston Globe writer
"The Bruins are the first team in modern NHL history with 30 wins in 38 games or fewer.
The others to go 30-for-38 are the 1929-30 Bruins (30-4-1 in 35 games) and the 1944-45 Canadiens (30-5-3 in 38 games)."
The Bruins absolutely are a machine right now, led by 1st year Boston head coach Jim Montgomery.
