The Boston Bruins got themselves off to a bad start on Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes, but a great show of resilience and an eventual comeback in overtime would earn them a piece of National Hockey League history in the end.

The Bruins were coming into TD Garden Arena on Friday with 11 consecutive wins at home to start the season under their belt, which was in and of itself good enough to tie an NHL record set by the Chicago Blackhawks all the way back in 1963. The Florida Panthers also rattled off 11 straight wins at home to start the season in 2021, but no team in the history of the league had been able to start the season with a full dozen wins at home.

That is until the Bruins completed the comeback on Friday, scoring once in the second period, once in the third period, and then again in overtime to erase the 2 goal deficit and take the NHL record with their 12th consecutive home win in the 2022-23 NHL season. Fittingly enough it was some names that fans in Boston have heard called many times over the last several years that would lead the charge, with veteran forward David Krejci picking up the first two goals for the Bruins before David Pastrnak would close the deal on the power play in overtime.

Here's the OT winner:

While 12 straight wins at home to start a season may not sound particularly difficult, the fact that the record stood for nearly 60 years suggests that it is in fact quite difficult. While the Florida Panthers managed to tie the previous record in 2011, they and the 2016-2017 Montreal Canadiens (10 wins) are the only teams in the modern era of the NHL to even make it to just 10 wins.

As a result this is a record that could stand for a very long time, perhaps even beyond our lifetimes, and the Bruins aren't even done yet.
