The Boston Bruins have lost one of their top players for the near future and have been forced to make an emergency call up in an effort to replace the missing piece in their lineup.

According to an official announcement from the Bruins organization, defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been placed on injured reserve as a result of the injury he suffered one week ago during a Bruins win over the Washington Capitals. The Bruins did not announce that the injured reserve designation would be retroactive to the date of the injury and if the designation is set to begin today that would mean McAvoy would be out for at least another week of action. Keep in mind that this is only speculation on my part at this time and has not officially been confirmed one way or the other.

McAvoy was having a terrific season for the Bruins thus far with 13 points ( 0 goals and 13 assists) over his first 38 games of the season and a plus minus rating of +13 to go with it. The injury will obviously leave a large gap on the Bruins blue line and regardless of who they call on to replace him there is no way the Bruins can possibly replace the 22 year old former first round pick.

The Bruins have called up 22 year old who has played in 35 games this season but all of them with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. Lauzon has 10 points this season )1 goal and 6 assists) and boasts an impressive plus minus rating of +16 on the season thus far. He played in 16 games for the Bruins last season when called upon and it seems likely that the young defenseman will be getting another shot in the NHL shortly.
