Bruins release discouraging update on Jake DeBrusk

This is disappointing.

Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk continues to be a revelation for his team, only one season removed from a trade request that he would eventually rescind. With 16 goals and 14 assists this year, he's currently on pace for nearly 70 points as he's helped the Bruins to the best record in the National Hockey League - something that nobody predicted would happen in the fall.

Of course, DeBrusk happened to score both goals during Monday afternoon's Winter Classic at Fenway Park against the Boston Bruins, including the game winning goal in the waning minutes of regulation.

However, the bad news is that he's apparently suffered a lower body injury.

According to Mark Divver of The New England Hockey Journal, DeBrusk is in a "walking boot", and the Bruins could be making a call up from the American Hockey League affiliate Providence Bruins in short order.

"With Jake DeBrusk in a walking boot postgame on Monday, look for Boston to recall Chris Wagner from Providence.

Having an excellent season in AHL. Leading by example. Scored GWG and was first star with outstanding two-way game on Saturday."

There was picture evidence of DeBrusk in the walking boot shortly after the Winter Classic:

Wagner, an original 2010 Draft selection of the New York Islanders, has skated in 357 career NHL games, having scored 37 goals 26 assists.
