The Boston Bruins picked up a big win over their long time rivals the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, but it was a victory that may have come at a very steep price for the Bruins.

During the course of the game, Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy suffered a nasty looking injury when a one-timer from the blue line courtesy of Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson struck McAvoy hard in the face. The puck appeared to strike McAvoy directly in the jaw, sneaking its way under his visor and directly into his unprotected face, causing him to collapse to the ice immediately where he would remain for a long time.

The Bruins star did manage to make his way off the ice under his own power which was a good sign, but McAvoy would immediately head to the Bruins locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Following the conclusion of the game the Bruins did release an early update on McAvoy's status but they did not share a great deal. According to the Bruins, via head coach Marco Sturm, McAvoy was undergoing tests after the game and there was some hope that he would be able to continue traveling with the team.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed later in the night that McAvoy had indeed been able to travel with the Bruins, again a positive sign.

In spite of some good early indicators coming off of a scary injury, McAvoy could still miss significant time and we will have to wait on an official update before we know more.
