The Boston Bruins have announced that goaltender Michael DiPietro will temporarily leave the organization to join Team Canada for the upcoming Spengler Cup in Switzerland.

The 23 year old netminder was acquired by the Bruins from the Vancouver Canucks earlier this year and has so far appeared in just five games for the Bruins' ECHL Maine Mariners. He played 34 games with the Canucks' AHL affiliate Abbotsford Canucks last season, but was essentially passed on the team's depth chart by fellow youngster Arturs Silovs. The emergence of back up goalie Spencer Martin also pushed DiPietro out of the picture in Vancouver.

This won't be the first time that DiPietro has suited up for team Canada, having also represented his home country in the 2019 World Junior Championships. DiPietro and Canada ended up dropping a Quarterfinal game to the eventual gold medal winners Finland.
