The Boston Bruins have made an unexpected addition to their roster on Monday morning.
In an official release, the Bruins announced the signing of 23 year old Czech goaltender Simon Zajicek to an entry level contract. The undrafted prospect will get a one year entry level contract that will pay him $872,500 at the National Hockey League level, although it remains unclear how the Bruins intend to deploy him come next season.
Zajicek likely has landed on the Bruins radar due to a terrific season he had in the Czech league with Litvinov HC. In 29 regular season games the native of Frydlant, Czechia recorded a 2.12 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. He would maintain that level of play in the playoffs as well with a 2.63 goals against average and a .927 save percentage over 3 playoff games this season.
In total Zajicek has spent 6 seasons playing for Litvinov HC in the Czech league and he boasts a career goals against average of 2.68 and a save percentage of .912 over that span of time. Very solid numbers when you consider the fact that his team has a losing record over his tenure, with a record of 36-48-0.
In the video below you can see some recent highlights from Zajicek's time with Litvinov HC.
