Bruins sign new goalie as Jeremy Swayman’s missing from camp
The team had to make a move:
At the start of training camp in Boston, it was confirmed that Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman would not attend until he signs a new contract. On Wednesday, general manager Don Sweeney announced that the netminder will not be on the ice until a contract is finalized, only adding that he’s optimistic they’ll get him signed before Dec 1.
After trading Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this summer, the Bruins look to Swayman to lead the way in Boston with a bigger workload. However, at this point, fans are starting to wonder what workload if Swayman keeps missing time. In the meantime, the Bruins had to make sure they could have options in net and on Thursday signed goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO).
Kaskisuo is a former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs and a 30-year old netminder with just two games of NHL experience under his belt. He played with the Laval Rocket, the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens last season, recording a .909 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA through 13 games played.
He will be coming to Boston with experience with two of the Bruins’ biggest rivals. Kaskisuo joins a group that already includes Michael DiPietro and Brandon Bussi, but what fans need and want is the return of Swayman with a contract in hand. Last year, he recorded a .916 save percentage in 44 games and ranked fifth in the NHL in goals saved above expected. The Bruins need him once the season gets underway and the addition of Kaskisuo nothing more than a depth move for Boston as they look to settle the situation with Swayman’s contract situation.
