The Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche have struck a deal on Day 2 of the National Hockey League Entry Draft and this one involves no draft picks of any kind.

This is a classic 1 for 1 hockey trade with the Boston Bruins sending forward Fabian Lysell to the Avalanche and getting back forward Ivan Ivan in the deal.

Lysell is a former Bruins first round pick, selected 21st overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, but he has seen very limited playing time at the NHL level. Since being drafted the Bruins have deployed Lysell in just 12 NHL games, with the Swedish forward picking up 1 goal and 2 assists over that stretch. This past season he spent all 57 games with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League, putting up 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points on the season.

While the Bruins are getting a player back in this deal this does very much feel like them throwing in the towel on Lysell.

Coming back the other way is undrafted forward Ivan Ivan who unlike Lysell has managed to work his way up from the American Hockey League. After going undrafted, Ivan would get his first chance in the AHL as a member of the Colorado Eagles and quickly parlayed that into a shot in the big league. Just one year later Ivan played 40 games for the Avalanche, the most of his career in a single season thus far. This past season Ivan played the majority of his games in the AHL with the Eagles, putting up 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 66 games.
