William Nylander faces the media after another ugly loss.
The Toronto Maple Leafs may be imploding before our very eyes with the Leafs recording a third straight loss on Sunday as they lost by a score of 5-1 to the Dallas Stars.
The Leafs now find themselves at the very bottom of the National Hockey League's Atlantic Division, behind even the likes of the Buffalo Sabres, and would be dead last in the Eastern Conference were it not for the Columbus Blue Jackets having a truly abysmal season so far.
Following the conclusion of last night's game, members of the Maple Leafs leadership core faced the media and took questions about the team's current struggles, with the comments of star forward William Nylander truly standing out. Nylander, a player that is normally unphased by the pressure of the Toronto market, admitted that the team's current run of form had him feeling a way that he has never felt before.
"I don't know if I've felt like this before," admitted Nylander when asked about the team's current stretch of losing. "I'm not sure. I don't feel like I've had that in the NHL at least."
Many have been quick to point out that, despite the lopsided scoreline, the Maple Leafs had a better showing overall against the Stars than they have had as of late. Nylander acknowledged that the team has been playing better, but also added that if they had shown more consistency in that regard then perhaps they would be getting the result they are looking for.
"We've been building positively the past two games but when you haven't been playing well consistently for a while you have to grind through it even more," said Nylander. "If we were playing well consistently maybe tonight would have gone our way, maybe last night would have gone our way."
That being said Nylander made it clear he plans to leave the arena and forget about the loss as quickly as possible, although that will become considerably more difficult for him and the rest of the Maple Leafs if those losses continue to pile up.
