Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy left this weekend's game against the Montreal Canadiens after getting absolutely clocked directly in the face with a slap shot.

If you look closely, you can actually see a tooth come flying out of McAvoy's mouth:

McAvoy left the game and did not return and yesterday Bruins head coach Marco Sturm provided a bit of an update on his status moving forward. First off, it's not yet known if McAvoy will need jaw surgery, he is still being assessed by team doctors. Secondly, McAvoy is officially day to day, but that could change in a moment's notice.

“He's with the doctors right now. There's no timeline," Sturm said yesterday. "Obviously, he’s going to be out tonight, and we'll see how it goes today.”

Stay tuned for an update from the team later today, especially if it's determined that McAvoy will need surgery.
