In his truly breathtaking piece for The Players’ Tribune, former Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes forward Bryan Bickell shares the heartbreaking tale of learning about his multiple sclerosis diagnosis from doctors and sharing the news with his family. It’s a gut-wrenching story that really brings to light the toughness in the man they call “Bicks”.

And their dad, well, he was sick but still not sick — still a hockey player, still healthy, still able, still O.K. He was still watching over them, and still taking care of them. He was still right there with them.

Incredible. Heartbreaking. You have to feel for this guy. While his NHL career may be over, we have no doubt that he’ll fight with everything he’s got, just like he did in the NHL.
