Insider Kevin Weekes shared some heartbreaking news on Wednesday, revealed that former NHL defenseman and San Jose Sharks scout Bryan Marchment has passed away in Montreal at the young age of 53. According to reports, he was found dead in his hotel room.

The onetime hard-hitting defenseman retired from the league back in 2006, but was a scout for the Sharks ahead of this year’s draft in Montreal, which takes place on Thursday and Friday. He was in town to help the team with the selections.

He is the father of NHL forward Mason Marchment, who, just like his father, has some sandpaper to his game. He averaged over two hits per game and a penalty minute per game in 2021-22. He spent the last season with the Florida Panthers and is a pending free agent comes July 13.

His father shared with Mason his love for the game. In 926 career games with the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Hartford Whalers, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames, Marchment put up 40 goals and 182 points, with an impressive 2307 penalty minutes in total. He was selected in the first round, 16th overall by the Jets back in the 1987 NHL Draft.

He leaves behind a wife, a son, Mason Marchment, and a daughter, Logan. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones. Rest In Peace.
