Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams has locked up an important member of the squad this morning with the announcement that forward Casey Mittelstadt has been signed to a new contract
The deal is for three years and worth a total of $7.5 million, with an AAV of $2.5 million:
Mittelstadt is coming off a productive season on a poor Sabres team, tallying nine goals and 17 points over the final 22 games of the 2020-21 NHL Season and routinely seeing him matched up against the opposition's top players.
"I challenged Casey before last season to prove it, to earn a spot, and to show what he's capable of doing," said Adams. "And all he did was show up from Day 1 of training camp with a great attitude and put the work in. And then when he did get the opportunity, he kicked the door open."
"He might be the guy that I thought took the most strides this year, and I was very proud of him for that," teammate Kyle Okposo said of Mittelstadt. "He started the year and he was on the taxi squad but I knew that he had put the work in and he was continuing to put the work in, and it paid off.
"Just the confidence that he was playing with at the end of the year was just awesome to see. He's only going to keep getting better."
The Edina, MN native was selected by the Sabres with the No. 8 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, and has gone on to score a total of 27 goals with 34 assists in 155 career games played.
Adams will now turn his attention to the team's remaining restricted free agents in defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Henri Jokiharj.
