As Mark Spector reported, Max Domi is certainly the front runner for the Calder Trophy race so far in the season. With only one point behind teammate Anthony Duclair and Chicago Blackhawks' forward Artemi Panarin.

This year draftees Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel have yet to make a significant impact on their respective team. The differences between Domi,Duclair and Panarin and McDavid and Eichel are simple and can be narrowed down to two words, age and opportunities.

Domi, Duclair and Panarin are older than McDavid and Eichel and play bigger roles on their teams. Playing on the first two lines and having power play time usually translate in scoring opportunity, or at least situations were you can score more points. Also, talent wise, Domi, Duclair and Panarin have more talented players surrounding them than young McDavid and Eichel.

Although there are only more or less then 5 games played in the NHL, Max Domi has something that the other players on this list don't, Tie Domi as a father.

“He’s my Dad, so I talk to him about everything. He’s giving me feedback, and his honest opinion is usually pretty honest. Whether I’m playing good or bad, he’ll let me know. My Dad wasn’t handed anything in his life — he’s worked for everything he’s got. He deserves it all, so I try to take his work ethic and put it into my game. He played 17 years in the NHL … and he was a great teammate too. Little things like that. Attention to detail is huge.”

Even if he does not finish with the most points amongst rookie this year, Max Domi as emerge as one of Arizona's most important player and if he continues to play a prominent role with his club, he will bring the Calder Trophy home.
