One of the biggest questions of the 2022 NHL offseason was finally answered earlier this week, as free agent forward Nazem Kadri has himself a new team.
The former member of the Colorado Avalanche who helped his team to the 2022 Stanley Cup championship while also threats to his personal safety in the process has made the decision to sign with the Calgary Flames.
Despite speculation that Kadri could take his talents to the New York Islanders, it would ultimately be the Flames landing his services. Of course, this is the latest move made by the Flames this summer that already included a blockbuster deal in acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, and Cole Schwindt from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Matthew Tkachuk. Additionally, Sean Monahan was shipped to the Montreal Canadiens in order to accommodate the Kadri signing.
Needless to say, the Flames are re-upping in their quest for their first championship since 1989. And it wasn't long after Kadri signed with his new club that a native of the city reached out.
Defenseman Cale Makar, Kadri's now-former teammate with the Avalanche, happens to hail from Calgary and contacted the latter:
Last season with the Avs, Kadri recorded a career best 87 points in 71 games. And over the course of 739 career NHL games spent with Colorado and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Kadri has racked up 512 points.
