Well this was quite something.

The Calgary Flames welcomed the Los Angeles Kings to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night, but even prior to the puck being dropped there was an incident that is likely to make some headlines.

As is often the case the Flames welcomed a group of people for a ceremonial puck drop on Saturday night, a group that included Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

Of the 4 people introduced, 3 of them were warmly received by the fans in attendance who seemed enthusiastic about South Asian Celebration Night. The 4th person to be introduced however was the aforementioned Mayor and unfortunately for Mayor Jyoti Gondek the fans of the Calgary Flames were not willing to give her a warm reception in the Saddledome.

Where the previous 3 had received polite applause, Gondek was instead treated to a much louder response in the form of a chorus of boos. There was no denying the fact that Gondek was the source of the sudden vitriol from the fans in the building, a moment that no doubt had to be very difficult for the Mayor to endure.

That being said the fans in Calgary did pay for their tickets and are free to express their displeasure by booing if they choose to do so, and they did so in brutal fashion for Mayor Jyoti Gondek on Saturday night.
