Cam Talbot tries to help goalie save his young son's life.
National Hockey League goaltender Cam Talbot is going above and beyond for another member of the hockey community.
I often brag that I get to cover the best sport and the best athletes in the world and I am genuinely thankful that the players in the National Hockey League consistently find a way to keep proving me right.
On Monday morning, thanks entirely to NHL goaltender Cam Talbot, I was made aware of the plight of goaltender and goalie coach Nick Grainger. Grainger, a former goalie coach for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League, has been forced to reduce his role at the training center and goalie school as he takes care of his young son Jameson who has been struck with a rare form of kidney cancer.
A friend of the family posted the following message on a GoFundMe that has been set up in support of little Jameson:
Hi, my name is Justin Ismael and we're looking for help for our friend Nick Grainger and his son Jameson as he undergoes cancer treatment. All proceeds will go to help Nick and Jameson on their path to recovery.
Meet Jameson, a courageous young soul who is facing an uphill battle against Wilms cancer, a rare kidney cancer that predominantly affects children. At just a tender age of 3, Jameson's life has been abruptly altered as he fights against this formidable adversary. As a result, his devoted father, Nick, has made the difficult decision to reduce his workload, at the training center and goalie school to provide support to Jameson and his family. We have the incredible opportunity to rally together and make a lasting impact on their lives during this trying time. Let's unite our efforts and extend a helping hand to ensure Jameson receives the care, love, and resources he needs to conquer Wilms cancer.
Talbot obviously caught wind of this and not only shared the link to the GoFundMe campaign, but also shared some words of encouragement alongside the hashtag #SupportBraveJameson.
"A member of the goalie union needs our help," wrote Talbot on Monday. "His son Jameson was diagnosed with a rare kidney cancer, leading Nick to step away from his many responsibilities as a goalie coach/mentor. Keep them in your prayers and help if you can."
It was a small gesture on the part of Talbot but one that could make a huge difference for both Nick and Jameson in this difficult fight. Here's to hoping for a full and speedy recovery for little Jameson.
