Cam York signs a lucrative long-term deal on Monday.
The Philadelphia Flyers have just concluded an important piece of business.
According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers have signed defenseman Cam York to a new deal. York, who was drafted by the Flyers in the 1st round (14th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, was a restricted free agent in need of a new contract.
Friedman reports that this new deal will be a relatively long-term contract with a 5 year term, and it will carry an average annual value and salary cap hit of $5.1 million per season for the Flyers.
Since being drafted by the Flyers, York has played in 235 regular season games and has 19 goals and 58 assists under his belt for a career total of 77 points so far.
York is coming off of a 2 year deal that carried an average annual value and salary cap hit of $1.6 million which means that this represents a significant raise for the young man but also a significantly increased cap hit for the Flyers moving forward.
The Flyers have made significant moves to improve their roster this year and this latest development suggests to me that they see York as a big part of the organization's plans for the future.
Let me know what you think of York's new contract in the comments.
