Can McDavid's return spark Oilers to a playoff birth?

The anticipated return of Connor McDavid to the Oilers lineup happened this week and he definitely came back with a bang. In the two games, he picked up 5 points. 1 goal and 4 assists, with the goal being of the highlight reel variety. So it has made people wonder if this can turn the Oilers around and possibly make the playoffs.

McDavid and Jordan Eberle have had some instant chemistry and with a solid second line duo of Leon Draisaitl and Taylor Hall, The Oilers now have a one-two offensive punch. They have scored 12 goals in their two last games and as much as we know this pace cannot continue, it still has made people wonder. What if McDavid never got injured and can they Oilers have enough of a push to possibly grab one of the last playoff spots.

The answer to this still unfortunately remains no. If the Oilers wanted to grab a spot, using last years totals, they would need at least 99 points to get in. That would mean over their last 30 games, they would need 52 points. So they would have to go 26-4 over that stretch. Not very likely.

However, it has given a lot of hope for next season. Unfortunately for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the Oilers are getting a first hand look of their top two centers of the future and what they see is very interesting and promising. They seem to have found great fits and have two solid duos. McDavid-Eberle and Draisaitl-Hall. Eberle missed time with an injury early this season so he never had a chance to play with McDavid.

If the Oilers can once again add some pieces this offseason and stay healthy next year, it could be a very interesting year for the Oil and Oilers fans alike!
