The Montreal Canadiens have won the 2022 Draft Lottery and will have the opportunity to select projected number one pick Shane Wright of the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs with the 1st overall selection.

Here's the entire drafting order of the non-playoff teams:

This is the first time the Habs have had the opportunity to draft 1st overall since 1980 when they selected Doug Wickenheiser. It seems likely that the team will, in fact, select Wright as he's been at the top of draft rankings for well over a year now. The 18 year old center is billed as an extremely smart pivot with excellent playmaking skills and strong offensive and defensive awareness. He's not really looked at as a generational superstar in the mold of Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews, but he's still clearly the #1 player available this summer.

More on Wright's scouting profile:

In short, Wright projects to be an excellent all-around player who will make an impact in all facets of the game. I couldn't think of a better player to help the Habs get out from the basement of the league.
