A terrifying moment unfolded in Austria when Canadian defenseman Jordan Murray suddenly collapsed on the ice during a playoff game.

Murray, who plays for Klagenfurt AC, went down without any apparent contact during a quarterfinal matchup against Fehérvár inside the Heidi Horten Arena. Witnesses say the arena instantly fell silent as the 33-year-old defenseman collapsed near the players’ bench for reasons that were not immediately clear. Medical staff reacted within seconds.

Paramedics and an emergency doctor rushed onto the ice, while members of the KAC coaching staff, including Kirk Furey and David Fischer, joined the effort. According to reports, medical personnel performed CPR on Murray for roughly 10 minutes in a desperate attempt to stabilize him.

Eyewitnesses said Murray had to be resuscitated multiple times before regaining consciousness.

After emergency treatment on the ice, he was given an IV and quickly transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

The frightening incident immediately halted the game. Officials later made the decision to abandon the contest in the 18th minute, as players and staff from both teams were visibly shaken by what had just happened.

The ICE Hockey League is expected to determine at a later date how the playoff game will officially be recorded.

“The health of Jordan Murray is currently the top priority.”

Murray joined Klagenfurt AC last summer after several seasons in Germany’s DEL, where he previously suited up for clubs including Schwenningen, Mannheim and Wolfsburg. Earlier this year, he missed more than half of the regular season due to a serious injury.

At the moment, no further update on Murray’s condition has been released.

For now, the hockey world is simply hoping for good news as thoughts remain with the veteran defenseman, his loved ones and his teammates.
