The Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils have struck a deal on a rare post-deadline trade.

Given that none of the players moved in this deal will be eligible to be on either team's playoff roster we are not talking about a massive trade deal here, but rather a relatively minor swap involving a pair of forwards.

In an official announcement, the Canadiens have confirmed they are sending forward Nathan Legare to the Devils in exchange for forward Arnaud Durandeau.

Legare is a former 3rd round pick (74th overall) of the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, who has no National Hockey League experience under his belt. Legare has spent all 39 games this season as a member of the Laval Rocket, scoring 6 goals and adding 3 assists for a total of 9 points.

Durandeau, a former 6th round pick (165th overall) of the New York Islanders is in a similar situation with his entire season split between the Bridgeport Islanders and the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. In total, he has appeared in 38 games and has recorded 4 goals and 14 assists for a total of 18 points on the season. Durandeau does have 4 games of NHL experience under his belt, all of which came last season with the New York Islanders.
