The Montreal Canadiens have announced some very sad news.

On Saturday, the Canadiens took to social media to announce that former Canadiens forward Joseph Jean-Paul Robert Rousseau, better known to hockey fans simply as Robert Rousseau or Bobby Rousseau, has passed away at the age of 85.

Rousseau will be best remembered as a member of the Montreal Canadiens with whom he would win 4 Stanley Cups during his career in the National Hockey League, but he also had a brief stint with the Minnesota North Stars and spent several seasons as a member of the New York Rangers. In total, Rousseau would appear in 942 NHL games and put up an impressive 245 goals and 458 assists for 703 career points.

Rousseau's career got off to a relatively slow start with 1 goal and 2 assists in his first 15 games but in his second season with the Canadiens, his first full season in the NHL, Rousseau would shine with 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points in just 70 games. It was enough to earn Rousseau the Calder Memorial Trophy that year, but that of course was just the beginning for Rousseau and the Canadiens.

Rousseau is recognized as one of only 8 players in the extensive history of the Montreal Canadiens franchise to have recorded 5 goals in a single game, an achievement that highlights what a great player he truly was.

My most sincere condolences go out to Rousseau's wife Huguette, his children Richard, Pierre and Anne and the rest of the Rousseau family.
