Travel nightmare for both teams ahead of the biggest game of the season!
The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning have both been dealt an unexpected surprise ahead of their all important Game 7 on Sunday night.
Multiple reports have now confirmed that both the Canadiens and the Lightning have been forced to divert their flights as a result of dangerous weather patterns. Both flights were originally destined for Tampa International Airport but both have been diverted to different locations as per Lightning insider Erik Erlendsson.
The Canadiens flight has been diverted to Fort Lauderdale and is believed to have landed safely with videos emerging on social media showing what appears to be the Canadiens flight landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The Lightning on the other hand have been diverted to Sarasota and have also landed safely.
This is obviously a less than ideal situation for both teams with Game 7 roughly 24 hours away, but especially so for the Canadiens who are not local to the area. The Canadiens will now have to scramble to make last minute adjustments in Florida, although I do expect they would have prepared for this contingency.
Only time will tell if this unfortunate set of circumstances has any meaningful impact on either team ahead of the big game.
