Evans will be out long term, but the Canadiens have dodged a bullet.
The Canadiens have announced some bad news but, judging by the reaction from the Montreal fan base, it sounds like fans are just happy to have avoided the worst case scenario here.
On Saturday, the Habs officially announced that 29 year old forward Jake Evans would be sidelined for a period of four to six weeks as a result of a knee on knee collision earlier this month. Evans was initially injured on December 20th during a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, an injury that would occur after an awkward knee on knee collision between Evans and the Penguins' Justin Brazeau.
Here is how the injury happened:
Four to six weeks is a pretty nice silver lining when you consider that some feared Evans would miss significant time, and the news gets even better from there. According to Habs insider Eric Engels, the four to six week projection is retroactive to December 20th, which means that this is more like three to five weeks if we were to start counting from today.
Evans, a former Canadiens 7th round pick, has been an important part of the Habs offense and is a regular fixture in their lineup. Evans had 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points in 34 games this season prior to being injured.
