Canadiens set embarrassing record in franchise history

Geez…

The Montreal Canadiens looked awful in front of their own fans on Thursday night. The visiting Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the Habs 6-0 with goals from Sydney Crosby, Danton Heinen, Jake Guentzel, Teddy Blueger and Brock Ginn.

While the Pens managed to snap a three-game losing streak, the Habs wrote history in quite an embarrassing manner. According to Sportsnet’s Stats, the Canadiens -14 goal differential is their worst in franchise history through their first 10 home games of a season. Previous mark: -13 in 1938-39…

Just awful. Almost of the quarter of the season under their belt and the Canadiens have failed to prove they can remain contenders for the Stanley Cup. After losing in the final this past summer, this is another story (sure, without key characters like Carey Price, Shea Weber and Philipp Danault).

But they made history - though, we wouldn’t encourage them to share that record too loudly…
