The Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs have announced a trade.

With only days to go before the National Hockey League regular season gets underway, the Canucks and Leafs have concluded a minor trade.

According to an official announcement from the Canucks, the Canucks have acquired forward Sam Lafferty from the Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth round draft pick.

Lafferty, a former Pittsburgh Penguins 4th round pick (113th overall) at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, had spent relatively little time in Toronto prior to this move. The 28 year old forward was acquired prior to the trade deadline and appeared in just 19 regular season games for the Maple Leafs last season, recording 2 goals and adding 4 assists for a total of 6 points in a Leafs uniform. He spent the majority of last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, scoring 10 goals and adding 11 assists for a total of 21 points over the 51 games he spent in a Blackhawks uniform last season.
