A pair of Canucks legends are stepping up in a major way.
The Vancouver Canucks may have hit rock bottom this season and, after firing former general manager Patrik Allvin earlier this season, they are now turning to a pair of Canucks legends in an effort to right the ship.
According to multiple reports, it now appears as though Evan Gold will be the new lead executive in Vancouver but perhaps the bigger news is who will be joining him. It would appear that both Henrik and Daniel Sedin have agreed to take on larger roles within the organization and will be part of a new leadership structure alongside Gold.
National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman hinted at an offer of this nature from the Canucks to the Sedin twins on a recent podcast.
"I don't know what the titles would be in Vancouver if this is accepted, but I do believe they have talked to the Sedins about talking a larger role," said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.
According to both Friedman and Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal it sounds like neither of the Sedin twins are expected to be the primary decision makers, which would appear to cement Evan Gold as that figure moving forward.
While there has been no official announcement naming Gold as the new Canucks general manager, president of hockey operations, or a similar role, Patrick Johnston of the Vancouver Province is reporting that Gold is moving into a hockey operations role.
