Canucks finally get some good news on goalie Thatcher Demko

But... is it too late for this season to be saved?

As Thatcher Demko goes, so too do the Vancouver Canucks.

Whenever Demko has gone down with injury over the past four seasons, the Canucks have struggled in his absence. Sure, backup Kevin Lankinen has done an admirable job filling in but the fact of the matter is that the Canucks simply aren't a good team unless they have superb goaltending. When Demko is healthy he can provide the team with what they need but he simply can't be relied on to play a full season these days.

The 29 year old has played just 10 games this season, following just 23 games last season. He managed 51 games the season before but, of course, went down with injury during that post-season.

Today, the Canucks finally got some good news on their starting netminder however.

Demko will return Thursday evening for the team's home game against the Buffalo Sabres.

"I feel good. I've been able to see the team the last few days here. It's nice to be back, be around the guys and I'm ready to go," Demko told reporters today.

Demko's full comments:

The question for Canucks fans is... is this actually good news?

The team is last place in the NHL and fans seem to have resigned themselves to a tank season so that they can acquire the best draft pick possible. There are also reports of selling off veterans like Evander Kane, Kieffer Sherwood and even superstar captain Quinn Hughes.

So again... is this good news? Do Canucks fans actually want to see this team succeed?

Playoffs are probably a pipe dream at this point, right? Why not just tank the season and look forward to next Fall?
