According to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland is seeking a trade out of Vancouver and has changed his agent in an effort to facilitate a deal.

From Friedman:

This, obviously, is not the news that Canucks were hoping to make during the opening night of the 2023-24 NHL season.

There have been rumors for months now that Garland was maybe not in Vancouver's long-term plans, but with no trade materializing in the offseason those rumors had quietened down. You may recall that the team was in a similar situation with forward Brock Boeser a calendar year ago. Since then, Boeser put together an impressive campaign and re-iterated his desire to remain with the Canucks long-term. To be fair to Garland though... he doesn't possess Boeser's high end scoring ability. When a player can put the puck in the net, it tends to solve a lot of problems. For Garland, I don't suspect that he'll be as in-demand as he might think he may be.

Stay tuned.
