The Vancouver Canucks may have a bit of a tense negotiation on the horizon if they wish to keep one of their forwards.

After a very strong season with the Canucks during the 2024-25 National Hockey League regular season, Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood has made a major change to his career. On Friday, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal revealed that Sherwood had made a change of agent and was moving over to the Wasserman hockey talent agency.

Sherwood will now be represented by Judd Moldaver of Wasserman, one of the most powerful agents in the NHL, who currently boasts clients the likes of NHL superstars Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Zach Werenski and many more.

This could be for any number of reasons but I suspect that this is an indication that Sherwood is looking to earn a big pay day with the potential of becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Sherwood had a career high of 19 goals, a career high of 21 assists and a career high of 40 points last season in 78 games with the Canucks. On top of that he plays a gritty and physical style that many teams around the NHL covet, especially with the recent success of the Florida Panthers.

Although Dhaliwal did report on the change of agent he has not provided any insight into the reasons behind the change, leaving us to speculate. I suspect that this being the biggest contract year of Sherwood's NHL career is the primary reason, but remember that this is only speculation at this time.

Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
