Canucks general manager hints who he will drafting this year.

Most National Hockey League general managers usually keep any talk surrounding the draft, and their potential draft picks, close to the vest, but Canucks general manager Jim Benning is already dropping clues.

Benning was a guest on TSN's 1040 radio on Monday and dropped some big hints about who he will be drafting, and it sounds like defenseman are out of the question.

"If we felt there was a true number one defenseman, where we could get him at five, that's where our focus would be."

Unfortunately it doesn't sound like Benning believes there is such a defenseman in the draft.

"I don't know if there's a true number one defenseman.... if you look through the League right now there's maybe 8 or 10 number one defenseman in the whole League. I think this defense group this year I think are first pairing guys, where they could be a good two."

Following these comments from Benning, he was asked if the possibility of drafting forwards like Pierre-Luc Dubois and Matthew Tkachuk was a more reaslitic option, and based on his answer it sounds like this is where the Canucks will be going.

"I think that sounds more realistic to me," said Benning.
